Welcome
to Trogir
Trogir
is situated in the centre of Dalmatia, on the eastern coastline of the
Adriatic sea. The heart of Trogir is a small islet laying between the
gentle hills on the mainland and the coast of the Island of Ciovo.
It is the ideal base for
visiting nearby Split, Krka National Park, Sibenik, the Makarska Riviera,
or even make the day trip to Dubrovnik.
Its World Heritage status is well known - the UNESCO website states that:
"Trogir is a remarkable
example of urban continuity. The orthogonal street plan of this island
settlement dates back to the Hellenistic period and it was embellished
by successive rulers with many fine public and domestic buildings and
fortifications. Its beautiful Romanesque churches are complemented by
the outstanding Renaissance and Baroque buildings from the Venetian period."
In a nutshell, the
city has conserved its ancient feel, with the minimum of modern interventions,
and is an excellent example of how a medieval town can still thrive in
today's ever-changing environment.
